The Greencastle Presbyterian Church (GPC), in honor of Rev. Dr. Matthew Anderson, is pleased to recognize a graduating senior who resides in the Greencastle-Antrim School District with a scholarship award.

Rev. Anderson, a Greencastle native, lived from 1848-1928. He and his family worshipped with our congregation.

Following the war, Rev. Anderson helped educate former slaves of the community in a mission school established by the Presbyterian Church. Graduating from Princeton in 1877, he was one of the first three African-Americans to attain such status. It is our hope, in the words of the late William Conrad, local historian and member of the Greencastle Presbyterian Church, that “the memory of this servant of God will continue to live through our Matthew Anderson Scholarship Fund,” which is designed to aid those who require assistance in pursuing studies at college, university, certificate program or vocational school.

Application deadline is April 1st.
