100 years ago – August 19, 1923
This bat was used by “Si” Perkins Glass, to hit the very 1st home run on the brand new ball field, known today as Barkdoll Field, at the Jerome R. King Playground.
- Barkdoll Field was named in honor and memory of Charles “Whitey” Barkdoll.
- The Jerome R King Playground had just been dedicated and opened during Old Home Week 1914.
- “Si” Perkins Glass was on the Presbyterian team and Jim Craig, Sr was the team’s pitcher. He hit the home run off the Methodist pitcher Sam Brewbaker.
- The teams belonged to the Sunday School League.
